I liked them. J.K. Rowling is brilliant--she wrote a series! If it was just a single book, she probably wouldn't be so famous!

I agree. Even if she had only written a trilogy, they would have been great, but it wouldn't have been enough time for the popularity to pick up. So not nearly as many people would have read them all (even though I still think the third was probably the best).

I liked the 4th one the best. It was the crux of the whole series and so funny.

6 reminded me of 3. Had the same "lull in-between the main action/backstory! whee!" feel. And carried the themes of 2.

Can't wait 'til 7...*nervous-excited*

When the fourth one came out, I thought that was my favorite... same with the fifth one.

Not the sixth, because it seemed so dark and at the same time had some romance, which I don't mind in most books, but it didn't feel like it had a place in Harry Potter.

Now, it's been quite a while since I've read them, and I'm really not sure. They all had some things I liked about them.

Yeah,6 was kinda weird. But it reflects the change in the series from fairly light and fun to dark and sinister--which is only the beginning. Imagine the Final Confrontation. *gets chills thinking about it*

I think 6 will make more sense with 7.

Yeah, I often wonder how the seventh one will turn out (though I'm happy to wait a while to find out; unlike some of the earlier books in the series, I'm not super anxious to read it. I haven't even thought about it for a while).

I wonder how it'll be structured, if they don't go to Hogwarts.

And I also wonder if Harry will die. There have been some hints at that, what with Dumbledore's opinion that death is "but the next great adventure."

/me thinks Dumbledore is crazy.

I think that JK Rowling is a good writer. Sure there are a lot of better writers out there, but you have to remember that the initial target of these books was kids. It just so happened that they read well enough for adults as well.

I think the hype that surrounds this franchise has nothing to do with her writing ability, and everything to do with effect these books have had. It got everyone at every age level reading, and it got kids excited about books.

I never heard a kid bragging about reading a 600 page novel until these books came out. And not only that these kids were reading them in a matter of days.

This is something kids need. Too many of them dont give their brains, or their imaginations for that matter, enough excercise.

Just my two cents.

J K Rowling is one of the celebrated writer of our times and she is considered as one of the most contemporary writers of all.

Tell me, what uneducated boob considers her writing style contemporary? Don't get me wrong, I love the Harry Potter saga, but she does not write contemporary literature, any more than Dan Brown does.

Cool

Just to be different, I love the Harry Potter series. As far as story telling goes, these have to be my favorite books. Yes, I was there at midnight to purchase the last two, but I didn't start reading them till just before the fifth book came out. I read the second book for a book report in school and I loved it. They are a bit long, but so are some movies. I just feel like I've fallen into a pensive when I read these. These are just my opinions and personal thoughts. I highly recommend these books!
